A woman traveling from Kerala to Bihar was brutally assaulted near KR Puram railway station in Bengaluru during the early hours of April 2. According to police, two men intercepted her and her cousin outside the station, restrained the man, and sexually assaulted the woman in a nearby isolated area.
The survivor, who had been working in Kerala, had reached Bengaluru by train and was en route to her hometown in Bihar. She had informed her maternal cousin, who was waiting for her arrival at the KR Puram railway station. As they set off towards Mahadevapura for food, two men in an autorickshaw intercepted them outside the station premises.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), one of the suspects forcefully dragged the woman away while the other restrained her cousin to prevent him from intervening. The assailant then sexually assaulted her in a deserted area near the railway station. Her cries for help alerted nearby residents, who rushed to the scene and managed to catch one of the accused before he could flee.
Local police were immediately called, and the suspect was handed over to them. Following further investigation, both accused—identified as Asif and Syed Mushar, residents of Mulabagilu in Karnataka’s Kolar district—were arrested. Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police confirmed that Asif is accused of the assault, while Syed Mushar restrained the victim’s cousin.
Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including charges of rape and unlawful restraint. The investigation is ongoing to gather further evidence and ensure swift legal action against the perpetrators.
This disturbing incident has sparked outrage among local residents and commuters, raising concerns about safety around railway stations at night. Law enforcement has promised increased security measures in the area, with additional patrols and CCTV surveillance to prevent such crimes in the future.
